our advanced jazz ensemble instructor is quite enamored with the "dutch school" (mostly misha mengelberg, han bennink, and the ICP) and their high contrast almost pastiche, almost dadaist improvising. I'm not really that into the idea of contrast for it's own sake, it seems really heavy-handed, but those guys can seriously play.
