This project has been completed for about half a year now, and it's time I retake control of my SoundCloud accounts, because I can't deny what that platform has to offer. To this end, I will be deleting various recordings from the early part of the project -- if a SoundCloud link doesn't work, that's why.
In other news, Your Neck of the Woods, the ensemble closest to my heart, is having our farewell show tonight. Following that, I will be flying to Calgary with Lowlands and performing and assisting in workshops in the Calgary Folk Festival. After that, we fly back and play a Hillside after party show thing. It's going to be quite the weekend.

365 Day 365: Lotus Flower (acoustic cover)
Here is my final recording, a condensed cover of Radiohead's Lotus Flower, featuring my generous and talented friend Chris Wattam on the vocals. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Lotus Flower was originally written by Radiohead and they own all the rights and if one of their reps wants it down I'll gladly take it down deargodpleasedon'tsuemeIdon'thaveanymoney.
And with that the project is completed. I'll probably post a big old debriefing thing tomorrow sometime, but for now I'm going to go breathe a sigh of relief at the watering hole.

365 Day 364: tease
So because of that whole numbering fiasco, I'm not sure if my last day is today or tomorrow, but there's more work to be done on this one that I can't finish today anyways, so I'll do what I do best and finish it tomorrow.
here's a little tease in the meantime.

365 Day 363ish: Penultimate
or, fun with quickly rotating unrelated triadic tonal centres. kind of a drill I guess. progression is E G Db F Ab C E. guitar melody is phrased in 4 beat groups, bass and second guitar are in 3.
neat, eh?

365 Day 361: ami demo
the rest of this cover to be finished tomorrow morning (vocals, mastering, touch up tracks, etc). points if you can guess which tune by what band it is before then.
I have discovered a numbering disparity. A while ago I switched from counting the days I had done to the days I had yet to do, but I foolishly dated back from the day the project started, not the day it should finish. so this SHOULD be day 362, or something. whatever, it's almost done.
posts from yesterday and the day before to come, they're still on my phone and I am le tired.
[edit] yesterday (360) and the day before (359).
[editt] oh no, this numbering stuff is off. I must've missed something more drastic somewhere.

365 Day 358: Too Many
recordings
story: I was going to do this one much nicer with electric guitar and drums as well, but I discovered I didn't actually have a pick. I used the corner of a cardboard battery package for the acoustic here, and it was destroyed after this first take.

365 Day 352: Tracy's Last Dance
this is probably the last thing I'll do with my first bass, Tracy. Had to take one of her tuners off for my good bass because the ones from the P bass don't fit (and frankly, the P sounds a lot better than Tracy does).
had my family christmas today. very different without my uncle.

365 Day 350: Improv Dec 21
orph and my fancymic reunited. <3
new strings and a bridge adjustment on orph. the new strings are noticeably brighter (they were much brighter before, they've leveled out somewhat in the past few days) but the main thing I'm noticing is that the A string is really hollow -- no bottom end at all. It didn't sound that bad in the studio (thank goodness) but at my place and at the gig I just played it would not come through, though any notes played on the D and E strings were nice and boomy.
I think this may have to do with my moving the bridge so that the foot on the E string side is over the "bass bar", a wooden bar that runs under the top face of the instrument, but never having done anything to do with the setup of the bass I'm not sure. If someone could correct me on this I'd be very grateful.

365 Day 349: Eszett
finally sucked it up and bought a new xlr so my fancymic will work again. and it does.
the machine head for Donna Lee's D string broke, and Ibanez wants over $100 for a set of new ones, so I will probably cannibalize my p bass (featured here) for one until I can get home and cannibalize my other bass.
unplugged electric instruments.

365 Day 344: Far
upright bass from a distance.
new strings are kind of really bite-y, the low A (the open string used a lot here) is really hollow sounding (recording only sort of picks it up). have to wear them in as much as possible before recording on monday.
